Redesigning the MVP rewards feature, and creating a seamless and visually appealing user experience

Context

Context

curaJOY is a nonprofit tech organization that provides mental health support via gamification and AI.

The rewards system is designed to motivate users to complete structured plans, called quests, that encourage building positive behaviors and replacing negative ones.
Successful completion earns users tokens with monetary value, redeemable for gift cards. This system makes behavior tracking both engaging and rewarding, supporting users in achieving their personal growth goals.

Problem | Rewards Inventory & History Pages Lack Excitement & Value

The rewards inventory and the rewards history pages lack visual appeal. The display of rewards history should be different; it should be visually pleasing and gratifying for the user to see all the treasures they’ve collected.

Leveraging Existing Structures for Rapid Design Solutions

Leveraging Existing Structures for Rapid Design Solutions

With the website's basic structure already in place and an established design system to work with, I skipped the wireframing stage. Instead, I quickly developed two design solutions after reviewing competitor designs for inspiration.

During the weekly design critique session, where feedback was gathered from fellow designers and the CEO, Design Solution 2 was chosen to ensure consistency across the design.

Iteration 1 - Enhancing Clarity & Motivation with Inactive Rewards

Iteration 1 - Enhancing Clarity & Motivation with Inactive Rewards

Rewards and gift cards that users couldn’t redeem were grayed out to indicate their inactive status.

This approach:
Reduces confusion
• Helps users focus on redeemable items
• Subtly encourages users to engage more for larger rewards through visual hierarchy.

Reflection & Takeaways

Reflection & Takeaways

I learned that securing brand approvals is one of the most critical aspects of displaying gift cards in an incentive program. The process required extensive communication and multiple rounds of feedback to align with each retailer's strict guidelines, which ultimately shaped the final design.
